EXPLANATION OF THE 1871 CENSUS RETURN

As I found the 1871 Census of Canada for David Chainé (Quebec, Mégantic, Irelande) return for his family a little confusing because the relationship of the individuals to the "head" was not indicated I thought I would add my personal notes expaining this families on this return to help others who may be researching this family.

First the census lists David Chainé and his wife Margaret Ryan and 6 children.
It also lists 2 other individuals.
The last individual, named Célina Baron would later become David Chainé’s third wife after the death of Margaret Ryan 5 Nov 1871.
I do not know who Joseph Rondeau is on this return but he may have been at the David Chainé household at the time of the census or perhaps was living there.

The only children Dave Chainé had with Elisabeth Fortier are known as:
Barthélémie
Marie Hermine
Charles
Célina

David never had any children with Margaret Ryan.
After the death of Margaret Ryan David Chainé married Célina Baron 28 Feb 1873.

On the 1871 census return in the household of David Chainé there is listed two families, i.e David Chainé and his wife Margaret Ryan. The other family is that of Bathélémie Chainé (David’s son with his first wife Elisabeth Fortier) and his wife Julie Noel and their 4 children named:
Homère
Charles
Marie
Arthur.
