A GENEALOGICAL MYSTERY LINE

Once in a while one comes across a genealogical line where records become slightly ambiguous.
In this particular case in my research I was confused as to the exact lineage that followed this
particular marriage.
The marriage in question is between Charles Chaîné (sometimes spelled as Chéné, Chesnay or Cheeney) and
Félicité Girard.
Charles Chaîné first married Louise Marchand, daughter of Alexis Marchand and Marie
Josette Trottier-Labissionnaire 18 Jan 1808 at St-François-Xavier, Bastican, Québec. From this
union they had 5 children: Marie Louise, Félicité, Charles, Zéphirin and Charles.
At the death of his first wife, Louise Marchand on 21 Apr 1834 in Trois-Rivières, QC. Charles
Chaîné then lived from Apr 1834 until Jan 1841 (approximately 7 years) as a widower at which time he married Félicité
Girard, daughter of Joseph Girard and Victoire St-Pierre on 7 Jan 1841 at Immaculée-Conception, Trois-Rivières, Québec.

At Charles’ and Félicité’s marriage record an infant was officially recognized on the same date as their “own”.

What makes this an ambiguous situation is the fact that this recognized infant “COULD”
be interpreted as the biological infant of Charles Chainé and Félicité Girard who was born a
little over 2 years prior to their marriage, or, "COULD" be the illegitimate child of an unkown couple.

Therefore my question about this couple, Charles Chaîné and Félicity Girard is: is this infant
recognized as a true descendant of the Bertrand Chesnay’s genealogical line (in other words the
child of Charles Chaîné) or is he the infant of an unknown couple who do not follow the blood
line of Charles Chaîné or Bertrand Chesnay?
