Napoléon BISSONNETTE, was born on 16 April 1855 in Plantagenet, ON, Canada,1,2 and was baptized on 29 April 1855 in St-Jean-Baptiste, L'Orignal, ON, Canada.1 Napoléon, (widower of Exilda Roy), married Héloïse CHENE, daughter of Pierre Mélaire CHENE and Marie Louise ST-AMAND-ANDRE, on 27 October 1886 in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Hull, QC, Canada.3,2
Research Notes: Copy of information received from Pam: The information that I can give you is the following:
I have the death notice from a newspaper, for my grandfather Leonidas Bissonnette, and it says he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. "Napoleon" Bissonnette. We only know of his father as Pierre, from sources like my own mother who said his name was Pierre and his wife Sophie (Raby).
So...could Pierre and Napoleon be the same, we don't know.
We have Pierre's d.o.b. as Aug. 7, 1815 in St_Polycarpe.
Pierre m. Josephte Daoust on Nov. 13, 1838 in St-Polycarpe. (verified in Church records.)
Josephte was the widow on Antoine Prieur- that is ok.(also in church records)
The children of Pierre and Josephte that we know of are Olivier, Evariste and Caroline.
We do not have a date of death for Josephte.
Pierre m. Sophie Raby on Jan. 12, 1856 in St_Clet, (verified in Church records)
Pierre and Sophie are in the 1881 census, living in Alfred, Prescott, Ontario with their son Leonidas- his wife Marie (Pitre)and 1st son Arthur.
We only have one son that we know of for them, and that is Leonidas, my gfather.
Pierre died at the age of 72 on Oct. 13, 1884.
Sophie died Apr. 19, 1889 at the age of 69.
We think Leonidas S. Bissonnette (we do not know what the S. stands for) was born in Alfred.(also shows under another name as Bourget)(I think they are one and the same.)
Leonidas m. wife Marie Edesse Pitre on Jan. 12, 1880 in Alfred, Ont, and had 9 children.
After Marie died, he married Zepherine (Pitre - 1/2 sister of Marie) on Oct. 13, 1894 in Curran, and had 16 more children.
I know Leonidas and Zepherine lived in Alfred and moved to Whitney, Ontario, in 1905, where my father was born.
Leonidas S. Bissonnette and Zepherine are buried in St. Martin of Tours R.C. Cemetery, in Whitney, Ontario. His headstone says 1861- 1936. I have his funeral card which says: Died in Whitney, Ont. Feb. 20, 1936 aged 76 years.
Did I miss anything you wanted to know?
I do not have info on Napoleon & Eloise or Exilda Roy, though I do remember seeing the names before. I think there is another Napoleon a couple of generations back, like a brother of one of my direct descendants, but I will keep looking, right now I couldn't find it.
Thank you, I really hope you can help.
I have written to the Whitney Church, but have not heard back from them yet.

Félix CHENIER, was born on 19 January 1843 in St-Hermas, QC, Canada,1,2 and was baptized on 19 January 1843 in St-Hermas, St-Hermas, QC, Canada. Godparents: Joseph Chénay & Amable Viau.1,2 His baptismal name as written in the parish register was Félix CHENE.1 He married Lévina Marie Sarah POITRAS, daughter of Fabien POITRAS and Marie BAYLIS, on 28 November 1871 in St-François-Xavier, MB, Canada.3 He died on 20 November 1910 in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, at the age of 674 and was buried in November 1910 in St. Boniface Cathedral RC Cemetery, Winnipeg, MB, Canada.5,4
Biographical Notes: Records indicate he was baptised as Félix Chéné in St.Hermas, Deux Montagnes, QC. Dictionnaire généalogique des familles Chénier-Chainé-Chéné by René Chénier indicates his surname as Chené when he married Lévina Poitras in St.François Xavier, Manitoba 28 Nov 1871. Record of his discharge from the Red River Expeditionary Force 1870-1877 shows his surname spelled as Chénier. Subsequent records spell his surname as Chénier. So I have changed his last name to Chénier as it seems he was using it that way from the time he went to the Red River area of Manitoba at the time of the rebellion and kept it that way.
More Notes on Félix Chénier (From Bonnie Louise Atkinson): Félix Chénier was educated at Ste Thérèse College, QC. He was a Notary of Québec in 1867. He came to Manitoba in 1870 with the Red River Expedition under Col. Wolsely. He was a member of the Manitoba Legislature from 1874-1878. He worked for the Registrar of Deeds from August 1871 till July 1885. He was Examiner of Titles (Manitoba) July 1885 till his death in 1910. He was Justice of the Peace for 34 years. He was member of the Board of Education for several years. He was president of the Jean Baptiste Society (A French Canadian Organization).
Félix was a notary.
A GREAT MANITOBAN.
